DAMON WEST

Be a Coffee Bean

Hear the message that athletic departments all over the country are implementing as their motto: Be A Coffee Bean! This presentation is designed for coaches and academic institutions wanting to both motivate their coaches and staff, as well as implement the vitally important message of the coffee bean, that the power to change any situation is within you, not in the outside forces around you. The culture of your team can be positively changed in one hour!

Damon’s message not only addresses the physical and mental well-being of coaches and staff but provides real lived experience on growth through adversity. The leadership aspects of the coffee bean message provide the audience with much needed skills and tips for living and leading a positive life.

  MIKE     KARL

The Coaching Commandments

 AKA Marathon Mike

Mike adds a unique perspective within athletics from the position of athlete, coach and father of three boys; two who played collegiate tennis.

Mike is a Mechanical Engineer and has been in the HVAC business with Trane for 35 years. He was a two-sport athlete at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in both tennis and cross-country running. Athletics has been at the core of Mike’s life and he competed professionally as a biathlete after college.

Mike’s oldest son, Sean, was ranked #1 in the country as a junior tennis player. Sean won three straight Tennessee Division 6A State Singles Tennis Titles while attending Ravenwood High School, but was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Ewing Sarcoma while he was a high school senior. Sean passed away as a sophomore at the University of Tennessee and the Sean Karl Foundation was formed to honor Sean and raise funds for Ewing Sarcoma research. The foundation has raised over $1M and Mike was a key fundraiser for the cause. The name “Marathon Mike” came from running a marathon in all 50 states in six years. To raise money and awareness for the needs of pediatric cancer research, he also road biked 3,200 miles across America in 24 days.

An inspiration to many, Mike is excited to tell his story and share his wisdom from life and sports that he has gained over the years.
